You’re ready to leave your current place and are excited to move into your new home, but then the fear hits you: you actually have to move! It’s a daunting experience, and yes, some can end up in disaster. There are, however, a few things you can do to make sure that your move to your new home is as pleasant an experience as possible:

Book Early

You are almost certainly going to need either a moving service or a truck rental to move into your new home. Toronto is also an incredibly busy place with people moving all the time. If you know when you’re going to move, book right away. Don’t wait. You don’t want to get stuck on moving day with no more than a friend’s pick-up truck to move heavy furniture in!

Move Before You Move

What could this possibly mean? The fact of the matter is that many people might pack up and be ready to move on moving day, but that’s guaranteed to make your move a long and arduous affair. Moving should, and can, be easy, so you should start the process before that final day.

First, do your best to ensure that you have a month to move, if at all possible. Does this mean that you’re paying a month’s extra rent at your apartment? Yes, and even if you’re moving from one home to another, it’s best to arrange things so that the people who have bought your home don’t move in for a month until after you’re able to move into your new house. It does seem wasteful, at first, but it will also be something that you’ll look back on and be glad you did.

For one thing, you can make the move much more gradual. If you have a month to move in, you can take your time and pack up all the boxes of stuff that you know you won’t need for the coming weeks. You can then take those items over to your new place and drop them there until you’ve officially moved in. This is something that you can, and should do at least two or three times a week for three weeks. If you do this, you will find that there is a lot less to move during that final week.

By the time that final week arrives, you then take everything left that you can possibly move by car and transfer it to your new home. On that last, important day, you will find that all you, and your friends, have left to move are the big things like large furniture and appliances. That will make that last day a move that will be much faster than it would be otherwise!

Plan Your Moving Day

Use online maps and directions to plan your move ahead of time. This will eliminate any sense of panic that can arise on those hectic days and ensure that your move goes much further, especially if you’re trying to navigate through downtown Toronto.

Last but not least, Good Luck, although you won’t need it if you follow these simple tips for moving into your new house in Toronto!
